The CityGML specification document version 0.4.0 is an approved Best Practice Paper of the Open Geospatial Consortium, Inc.. It can be freely downloaded from the Best Practice Papers section of the OGC homepage. Direct document link: (OGC 07-062, PDF 9.8 MB).

A Change Document tracking the changes from the previous CityGML version 0.3.0 to CityGML version 0.4.0 is available (PDF document, 4MB). Please note, that this document is not an official part of the CityGML Specification. It is only intended to give an informative and informal overview of the significant changes and to reflect the discussions on received change proposals and comments.

The former version 0.3.0 of the CityGML specification document is deprecated by the new version 0.4.0, which is almost fully backwards compatible (the only incompatibility refers to interior building installations in LOD4, see change document and version 0.4.0). However, version 0.3.0 can still be downloaded from the deprecated papers section of the OGC homepage. Direct document link: (OGC 06-057r1, PDF 3.3 MB).

The UML diagrams, XML schema definitions, some example data sets, and free viewer applications for CityGML are available for download below. Furthermore, basic concepts and most of the modelling decisions are explained in a number of conference papers and presentation slides (see below).
